Thanksgiving is a time to share with family, friends and loved ones. Whether you will eat by the television cheering on your favorite sports team, watch a parade, or host an elegant dinner party, here are some tips to ensure that your Thanksgiving is fun for all!

Think outside the box.

This time of the year is a busy time for many; your guests may have invitations to many dinners and events. This is often the case for my family so we started a tradition of Thanksgiving brunch instead of dinner. This way we can all get together early for family time and a meal before heading off to other events with our spouses and friends.

Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be a fancy dinner party. Gather your friends and family for an early hike or bike ride- this could be a fun and healthier tradition to enjoy for those who have other plans and dinner invitations.

Plan ahead.

Make sure you have a menu prepared with what you will serve. As friends and family offer to help, assign them a dish off your menu to take tasks off your hands.

Go shopping early before there are crowds and meal prep. If you can, make a few dishes the day before, this will make your day less stressful and more enjoyable.

Decorate.

You have a beautiful home, now is the time to show it off! Make sure your home is clean and tidy. Make your home smell delightful by lighting seasonal scented candles.

Set the table - not sure what to use for centerpieces, think natural, less is more. Go outside and gather sticks and leaves, these make for beautiful table décor. Stop by the local farmers market for a bouquet of seasonal flowers or some pumpkins or gourds to place thoughtfully on the table.

Let your personality shine through your décor but don’t worry about going overboard, your guests are there to see your home and spend quality time with you.

Schedule events.

Dinner is over, now what? Schedule a fun event for your guests to enjoy after the feast is over. Once you clear the table, gather everyone to play a board game or write their Christmas wish-list. Is your family musically inclined- gather around the piano for some sing-along songs? Whatever it is that you and your family love to do, initiate a fun event after the pie to keep the night going.

Give back.

While we are giving thanks for the luxuries we are fortunate to have, there are others who are not fortunate enough to have the things we often take for granted. Give thanks to your community by donating supplies to a local shelter or serve food in the local soup kitchen. The Tim Kirk Team loves to give back to our community and military families. One of the greatest ways to show your appreciation and spread holiday cheer is by giving to those around you.

Have fun.

Remember, Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks for the people and things in your life. Whether you have it all, or not, enjoy what you do have and be thankful for the company. The less stress you put on the event, the better a time it will be for you and your guests.

Happy Thanksgiving!
